Turn the meter back without getting in trouble.

Most people know that if you are willing to invest in solar or wind power for your home, the long term savings can equate to many times more than the initial cost, spanning the life of the equipment. Not many people know, however, that you can actually accelerate that process by generating more energy than you use and selling the excess back to the utility company. This is made possible by connecting a solar panel or wind turbine system to a power inverter, which is tied directly into the power grid.

Using a power inverter allows you to power your home directly from solar panels or a wind turbine when the sun in shining or the wind is blowing, while still maintaining the ability to pull electricity the conventional way, from the power grid, when there is insufficient sun or wind. All this is done seamlessly by the inverter without any additional monitoring or participation by the homeowner. This type of configuration is aptly called a "grid-tie" system. These systems are relatively easy to install, and while you have the option to incorporate a battery back-up system for emergency situations and blackouts, a battery is not required, which reduces the need for added maintenance and battery replacement.

The practice of buying and selling electricity at an equal retail rate is known as "net-metering" and it is the simplest way to setup a grid-tie system. Net metering uses only one electricity kWh usage meter, and it is allowed to spin in either direction depending on if you are buying or selling energy. For example, if you were to go on vacation for a week (and you remember to turn off all your appliances) all the power you generate for the entire week will feed back into the electrical grid, making your electrical meter spin BACKWARDS!

The greatest feature of a grid-tie system is the fact that it is modular. If you determine that in order to generate 100% of your home energy needs, you would need to install a $20,000 solar system, you don't necessarily have to do it all at once. In fact you can break the cost up into "installments" by adding only a few panels at a time. Every new component you add, no matter how big or small, will move you one step closer to energy independence, and contributes to creating a cleaner environment.

Compact florescent light help save green (dollars & the environment) little by little

With continual advancements in energy technology, and the increasing public demand to eliminate our dependency on foreign oil, the future of America's energy looks promising. There will surely come a day when we no longer have to deplete our planet's natural resources nor pollute our environment in order to satisfy our energy needs, but we do not have to stand idle and wait for that day to come. We can take action right now!

If everyone made the decision to generate only half of their total home energy needs from solar or wind, it would reduce the nation's energy expense by more than $100 Billion annually. That's $100 Billion dollars which can be put into savings for our children's college funds, invested in clean alternative energy projects, or spent on consumer goods which would help stimulate our economy.

On an even smaller scale, making tiny changes can create huge results. For example, if every U.S. household replaced only one burned-out bulb with an energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR rated compact fluorescent bulb, it would prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to that of nearly 800,000 cars. It would also save enough energy to light 2.5 million homes for a year.

The average home has anywhere from 50 to 100 light bulbs. When you consider the fact that you can cut your energy costs by about $30 over the life of one compact fluorescent bulb, that equates to $1500 - $3000 in savings just by changing your light bulbs. Now isn't that enlightening?

Problem with the Pickens Plan

Lets start with explaining a part of the Pickens plan, which proposes creating wind farms in>the Midwest to shift “America's natural” gas from power generation, freeing it up “to replace imported oil as a transportation fuel”. The problem is that we don’t need a lot of electricity in the Midwest, we need it in the big cities and industrial centers. The Pickens plan to its credit address this by proposing “Building a 21st century backbone electrical transmission grid”. That will take time, millions if not billions of dollars and have a significant environmental impact.

I would like to propose an alternative Idea, decentralized or on-site electrical generation. In addition to not having the cost & environmental impact of creating a new generation of electrical transmission grids, the amount of energy lost in transmitting electricity is greatly reduced. Decentralized or on-site electrical generation is quite simply lots of small local electrical generators. This can best be accomplished by businesses and homes taking advantage of there Wind and Solar electric generation potential such as a small wind which won’t break the bank. Southwest Wind's Air-X Land Wind Turbine could be the solution. At under $700, the Air-X delivers up to 400w of peak power making it ideal to run basic appliances such as radios, TV's, and lights.

With its patented Auto-Brake system, which allows it to control the blade rotation, the Air-X is built to withstand wind conditions up to 100mph. So in high wind speeds, it will continue to produce power at a safe reduced level until the wind decreases, at which point maximum potential output will resume.

The Air-X also stands above the competition in battery charging technology. The Air-X's charge controller monitors the battery voltage, and shuts off all current to the battery once it is fully charged. This means any size battery bank from 25 to 25,000 amp hours or higher can be charged safely. When the battery has reached its charged state, the Air-X will slow to an almost complete stop. Only when the battery has dropped below its voltage set point will it startup and resume charging.

My Radio adv

start becoming energy independent

Welcome to my Blog

Hello my name is Lance Shugerman. I’m the owner of GreenEnergyProd.com, your source for reliable, realistic and affordable options for a greener lifestyle..

After many years as an auto dealership software programmer/analyst, I decided it was time do something positive for the planet. With the new leadership in Washington and a new spirit of conservation in the country, connecting people with economical, green options for energy use and energy production seems to be the right choice. And that is how GreenEnergyProd.com came into being.

Saving energy is good for the earth, good for people and good for the economy. I want to help you make that change.

I also feel that saving energy good for the economy; National security and another passion of mine Israel. I’ll be writing about these and other topic in the future.

Also coming in the next couple of days will be a link to sign up for a free Energy EBook so that you can start down the green energy educational road.
