Problem with the Pickens Plan

Lets start with explaining a part of the Pickens plan, which proposes creating wind farms in>the Midwest to shift “America's natural” gas from power generation, freeing it up “to replace imported oil as a transportation fuel”. The problem is that we don’t need a lot of electricity in the Midwest, we need it in the big cities and industrial centers. The Pickens plan to its credit address this by proposing “Building a 21st century backbone electrical transmission grid”. That will take time, millions if not billions of dollars and have a significant environmental impact.

I would like to propose an alternative Idea, decentralized or on-site electrical generation. In addition to not having the cost & environmental impact of creating a new generation of electrical transmission grids, the amount of energy lost in transmitting electricity is greatly reduced. Decentralized or on-site electrical generation is quite simply lots of small local electrical generators. This can best be accomplished by businesses and homes taking advantage of there Wind and Solar electric generation potential such as a small wind which won’t break the bank.
